A map depicts the average annual precipitation worldwide. Highest precipitation areas (dark blue), are notably in western Brazil, Guinea, and Indonesia. Lowest precipitation (light blue) areas include northern Africa, Greenland, and central Australia.

Most of Asia, the southwestern and northeastern regions of North America, the western coastal region of South America, Iceland, the eastern and northwestern parts of Australia, and the extreme southern region of South Africa receive precipitation ranging from 10 to 19 inches shaded in light blue. Northern regions of Africa, Greenland, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, central Australia, and much of Russia, including its northern, southern, and eastern parts, receive around 10 inches of precipitation shaded in very light blue. Much of India, Nepal, eastern China, central Africa including Nigeria, Ethiopia, and Kenya, central North America, Mexico, and the eastern part of Canada receive 20 to 39 inches of precipitation. Central Africa and the eastern region of India, including South Asian regions, receive 40 to 59 inches of precipitation. Southern and southeastern Brazil, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Vietnam, and Japan receive 60 to 79 inches of precipitation. The western part of Brazil, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, the extreme northern region of Madagascar, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Costa Rica, and some regions in Central America receive over 80 inches of precipitation shaded in dark blue.
