Regions include the Arctic areas of Canada (Northern Yukon, Northwest Territories), Greenland, the western United States (Nevada, Western Utah), parts of Mexico (Baja California), central Asia (Iran, Kazakhstan, Mongolia), the Middle East (Saudi Arabia, Yemen), northern Africa (Morocco, Algeria, Libya, Egypt), and interior regions of Australia (Northern Territory, South Australia).

Regions with 5 to 10 inches of precipitation, shown in light blue, cover central Canada (British Columbia, Northern Alberta), parts of the western United States (Colorado, Wyoming, Western Kansas), central Europe (Norway, Sweden, Finland), parts of northern Asia (Eastern Kazakhstan, Northern China), and eastern regions of Australia (New South Wales).

Areas receiving 10 to 20 inches, highlighted in medium blue, include the central United States (Iowa, Missouri, Illinois), parts of northern South America (Venezuela, Northern Brazil), northern Europe (United Kingdom, Denmark), eastern Europe (Poland, Belarus), parts of Asia (India, Pakistan, Afghanistan), and northern regions of Africa (Tunisia, Libya).

Regions with 20 to 40 inches, marked in blue, span the southeastern United States (Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia), central South America (Bolivia, Paraguay), central Africa (Gabon, Democratic Republic of Congo), western Europe (France, Germany, Switzerland), parts of South Asia (India, Nepal), and southeastern Australia (Victoria, Tasmania).

Darker blue areas, indicating 40 to 80 inches of precipitation, include the Pacific Northwest of the United States (Washington, Oregon), the Andean regions of South America (Colombia, Ecuador, Peru), Southeast Asia (Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam), parts of Indonesia (Sumatra, Java), and the island of New Guinea.

The highest precipitation, over 80 inches, represented in darkest blue, is found in the central America (Costa Rica), South America (Colombia, Ecuador, and Venezuela), parts of west Africa (Guinea, and Cameroon), parts of Asia (western coastal areas of India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Western Philippines), and Papua New Guinea.
